'Stealing Back In

Ahhh - I really do suck at regular updates. Busy as ever but still getting some paint down. Finally getting work done on that Knight Titan I bought months ago and he's coming along beautifully. LOADS of WiP shots to post but shall put those up later in another post. For the now, I painted up a few of the genestealers from the Space Hilk box set I bought off EBay a few months ago. The figs in that set are gorgeous. Really nice varied selection throughout. I'll get onto the terminators at a later point but wanted to have a bash at some of the bugs first. Generally I hate the whole tyranid thing - probably my least favourite faction in WH40K but I do have a soft spot for 'stealers. Probably out of nostalgia for the Space Hulk game more than anything else.

With the 'stealers I wanted to go for a more pale scheme. These things live in the darkness of a Space Hulk as it wanders aimlessly through the stars sometimes for millenia. See what you think C&C always welcome :D

  1. That's absolutely brilliant work on those Genestealers! A perfect colour scheme that makes them look creepy and organic without being either as cartoony as the classic blue and purple or too much like Giger's Xenomorph. I'll be using the exact same approach if (when) I get around to building a Genestealer cult for INQ28 one of these days -- if it's alright with you.

    Anyway, fantastic job! :)

  2. Thx very much KS. I'm really really happy with how the 'stealers came out. Spent a lot of time before starting thinking out what I wanted for them. I was never that keen on the cartoony colour schemes that they usually get painted in. I wanted something more creepy and along the lines of aliens coming out of the dark from the the movies. Something more realistic.
Think they came out right. 5 done and about another 20 (I think) still to do!!!)
Congrats on your Chaos Knight again btw. Stunning stuff. I'm still plodding away at my Freeblade Knight. Marble takes a while to do!! Which reminds me, I really should pop up some WiP shots of that - lol
    Thx again :)

  3. Many thx chap :) These are the first five 'stealers. They were more of a try-out for a genestealer colour scheme. When I got my hands on the SpaceHulk box last autumn, I wanted to make sure I came out with a good colour scheme for the 'stealers. I don't like Tyranids much at all, but 'stealers I do dig. Wanted a colour scheme that fitted in well with the game and the fluff behind it - lost, empty, rotting ship floating through space....its 'inhabitants' need to fit in with that feel. Creepy, pale, nasty creatures born in the dark of space. Used things like the Aliens & Species movies, H.R.Giger's art and the like for inspiration adn this is what I came up with :) Think they look the part pretty well and fit in nicely colour wise with the feel and the gameboards of the game :
    cheers for looking in

    1. rakarth flesh highlighted up with pallid flesh and then lots of glazes into the shadows using a few different shades like agrax, sepia and reikland IIRC
